Rant of a Hair Stylist

Don't get me wrong, I love what I do and I am damn good at doing it. Every now and again you get THAT client. You Hairstylists know what I mean. I am going to explain. They sit in your chair and you begin to consult. "So how do you style your hair daily?" The give you their answer " I part it right here all the time and flat iron it straight and put some spray in." Then you continue with what are they looking for in a cut and style. " They say they do not want to lose length but wants a new look, I am not planning on blow drying or styling because I don't have the time to, but I want to look like this picture" The picture they usually 99% of the time is a volume blow out, with long layers, and what the client don't realize that picture probably took about an hour and a half to complete that hair. They think they are pointing at wash and go and don't realize #1 you need product, and I mean the right product for your hair type. #2 There is no such thing as a wash and go long layered, voluptuous hair style. #3 If you don't have the time, don't make me do the crime. People can bad mouth a stylist up and down the street. But 95% of the time it is bad communication between both client and stylist.

Fun beachy waves!

Have you seen the latest in celeb trends? If you have then you probably have noticed the lovely beachy fun wavy locks they are donning this summer. I am going to give you some tips on how and what to use to create this easy to do fun style. First you need to havve the right product in your hair. We use Soy Renewal beach spray By Healthy Sexy Hair. This will give your hair that just came back from the beach texture. After you shower difuse dry your hair about 50-75% dry. Then spritz the spray from root to end and scrunch. You can then allow the air to naturally dry your hair or continue to difuse your hair dry. I have personally partially dried my hair, spray the mist into my hair then put it up in a black elastic all messy, then about an hour or so later when you are ready to go out take my hair down and it has that awesome wave that lasts all night!

Desiring what we don't have!

This day and age women are always looking at celebs and models comparing what they have to what the famous women have. I think this makes us depressed and down about our own image. We always want what someone else has. I wish I had a flat stomach or bigger boobs. Even with hair, Curly hair wants to be straight and straight hair wants to be curly. We as women are never satisfied. At least with hair it can be a generally affordable fix. You can always get a fresh cut, or a super color to bring your mood up. If you just want to work with what you have thats fine too. There are many products out there to help you get the most out of your hair. Talk to your stylist about what you can use to help you achieve a desired look. Don't be so hard on yourself and just work with what God gave ya!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a stylist that can do my hair really good?

So ladies and gents, every now and again I have a bold client that asks do you have a stylist that can do my hair really good? How does a stylist respond to this kind of question? If you are that hesitant to get your hair done and have to ask the stylist that is going to do your hair if they can do it really good that is a pretty pardon my french ballzy to ask! As an experienced stylist I have to first gather my thoughts take a very DEEP breath and answer the question with a smile. What people dont understand is that our shears are not magic wands and we can't just tap and twirl it over their heads and be magicians! Yes we have the expertise to do a fabulous cut and style, Yes we have the ability to give you and unbelievable highlight and color! But it comes down to the truth and the truth is there are just some clients that cannot be pleased, they are never happy no matter who they go to or how much they pay! Choose words wisely when you ask your stylist "can you do a really good job?" !!!!!!!!!

Time for a change!

Right about now people are getting tired of the same old style they are use to getting. It's spring time and with summer swiftly approaching a new style and color is definately needed! Beautiful Ombre highlights will softly cascade and brighten your mood and style. Ombre gives the effect of going from dark to ligh or light to dark. There are so many options with this type of color! Make sure you go to a stylist that has experience in this area. As for the sutting trends. Texture and movement in the hair are key to having a style that flows naturally with the contours of your head and face shape! If you are daring to be different talk to your stylist and set a plan that will have you feeling sexy and satisfied!

Everyone is searching for that hollywood look. Right now the trend is going to be Ombre highlights. All the IT girls of hollywood are sporting this look. It's beachy, fun, and easy maintenance. Make sure you find a stylist that is knowledged in this area. You should always stay withing 3-4 shades of your natural color at the at the roots and the ends should flow into a lighter shade.

Second if you are comming from the gym or use special acne treatments on your hair please inform your stylist so they can take the proper steps to ensure you get the color and tone you desire. Sweat builds up around the hairline and at the root of your hair. If your hair is not clarified first you will lack the luster and shine you desire. Remember communicate with your stylist. You are entrusting your hair to them and they want to get the best result as well. Product is key to creating and holding your style!

I know it's hard to comprehend that when you walk into a salon and point to the picture in the magazine and say this is what I want to look like and your stylist informs you that it will take some time and PRODUCT!. It's like clients think we are just trying to sell them something all the time that is useless. This is so not true. Product is the key ingredient to fabulous hair. Anyone who says they don't use it, (u can tell!!!! lol) But for real. If you are going for a long layered pieced out look, you are going to require some pomade , volumizers and some hair spray, weather we want to face it or not. Of course us stylists can make your hair from drab to fab in a matter of minutes but if our clients paid any attention to what we do when we transform their hair they would see we examine the type of hair and texture and what their hair needs to hold this look. Please ladies and gents, if your stylist is telling you that you need product in order to achieve the style you aspire to have, it's not just hot smoke being blown up ur koo!!!! Listen to them they know what they are talking about they are the stylist.

Your hair ages with you!!!!

Often I encounter clients who come in with a picture and say I want to look like this super duper model in this picture. Let me not forget a lot of clients are in their mid 40's to mid 50's and sometimes a little more seasoned. We all wish we had some super models something or other, but lets be realistic here. What clients tend to not realize is as they age so does their hair. Hair can change texture, thickness and lack rich color. Our hair takes a beaten through our lives and it will show its age at some point. The trick is to find professional products that are non stripping to the hair and that will add moisture and nourishment. Stick to organic non sulfate shampoos that are mild enough for even the stubbornest hair and skin. They will not stip or damage the hair cuticle more than it is. Also another great trick is to get semi-pemanent keratin treatments. They pose no health risks and are very quenching to the hair. They preserve color as well as repair damaged split ends. For grey hair, try matrix ultra violet shampoo to keep your hair silver and not dingy.
